Hasan and I got to visit our uncle who lives in London. What a fun trip! Our uncle is a busy cancer specialist, but he took time to show us around the city. We saw many buildings and places from movies and learned things we didn't expect.
The Tower of London is one of the oldest buildings in the city, and the Houses of Parliament are in the Palace of Westminster, right next to Big Ben. Many newer buildings are made mostly of glass. The Gherkin looks like a tall bullet, the Shard is the tallest of them all, and City Hall looks like a snail shell. The giant Ferris wheel is called the London Eye. You ride in glass capsules with comfy seats and can see the whole city unless it's foggy. It's right on the River Thames.
Signs were in many languages, and the city was full of people from many cultures; we heard French and Arabic. London also has a Chinatown. We tried many restaurants and even a McDonald's, where we ordered on a touch screen. The food was different from the U.S. menu.
London's subway is called the Tube. We knew people drive on the left side of the road, but seeing the driver in the right-hand seat was still strange. The banknotes are made of plastic, too. Hasan's favorite place was Piccadilly Circus, a busy square with giant screens on the buildings, like Times Square. Mine was the M&M's World store, with candy in every color, where we got scanned for our M&M's "mood color."
Everyone should try to visit London.
Until next time,
Hussain and Hasan
